200th anniversary of General Lafayette’s return tour to America

In honor of the 200th anniversary of the return to America by the Marquis de Lafayette, St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3025 Church Rd., Lafayette Hill, will be holding a special historical and educational event.

Forty-six years after the May 1778 battle of Barren Hill, which was centered around St. Peter’s original church building, Lafayette made a triumphant return to the U.S. as an elder French statesman. St. Peter’s, in conjunction with the American Friends of Lafayette, will be commemorating his return to Philadelphia with an historical presentation on Lafayette. Afterwards a performance by the Revolutionary new Philly Fife and Drum Company will prepare visitors for tours of the church graveyard.
